Rwanda agriculture land governance

Rwanda is a small country and landlocked. It covers an area of 26,338 km². In Rwanda, land is an important issue due to two different characteristics: first is that Rwanda is one of the most densely populated countries in the world (416 people per km2 – (NISR, 2012). Being an agricultural country, where over 85% of its working class citizens depend on agriculture, adds more pressure on land as the sole economic capital to the rural peasants.

No final de 2021, um relatório do FIDA – Fundo Internacional para o Desenvolvimento da Agricultura, uma agência da ONU – Organização das Nações Unidas, divulgou preocupantes perspectivas para a produção agrícola na África. The Institute of Policy Analysis and Research-Rwanda is a registered independent, not-for-profit research and policy analysis Think Tank in Rwanda. It became fully functional in 2008 with the support of African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF ) and International Development Research Center (IDRC) with initial start up support from the Government of Rwanda.

Mission

COPORWA (Communauté des Potiers du Rwanda = Rwandese Community of Potters) is a non-profit-making and non-political organization that works for the promotion and defence of the potters’ rights in Rwanda. COPORWA carries out its activities all over Rwanda, which is a country of East Africa. Its total area is 26.388 km2 and it is inhabited by about 11.000.000 people. The demographic growth of the country is approximately 2,8% every year. The potters make, with roughly 25.000-30.000 habitants, less than 1% of the whole population.

ORIGIN AND MEANING OF WORD “OMBUDSMAN”


The LAND Project is a five year program supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Its primary goal is strengthening the resilience of Rwandan citizens, communities and institutions and their ability to adapt to land-related economic, environmental and social changes.

Practical Action is an international non-governmental organisation (NGO) that uses technology to challenge poverty in developing countries.


We find out what people are doing and help them to do it better. Through technology we enable poor communities to build on their skills and knowledge to produce sustainable and practical solutions- transforming their lives forever and protecting the world around them.

Land Governance Multi-stakeholder Dialogue

The Dutch Land Governance Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue (LG MSD) is a dialogue jointly organized by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, companies, financial institutions, civil society organizations and knowledge institutes. Its organizing committee consists of representatives from Oxfam, Both ENDS, FMO, Actiam, APG, Utrecht University and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.


RNRAs is an authority that leads the management of promotion of natural resources which is composed of land, water, forests, mines and geology. It shall be entrusted with supervision, monitoring and to ensure the implementation of issues relating to the promotion and protection of natural resources in programs and activities of all national institutions. Particularly, RNRA is responsible for:

1° implementing national policies, laws, strategies, regulations and government resolutions in matters relating to the promotion and protection of natural resources;

Rwanda Housing Authority is a public institution based in Rwanda with its head office in Kigali city. It an agency under the ministry of infrastructure, legally established by law no 40/2010 of 25/11/2010 and published in the official gazette no 09 of 28/02/ 2011.The Institution started operating in December 2010. Rwanda Housing Authority was established in order to organize the construction industry as a whole and by doing so to spur Economic Development and Poverty Reduction which guide Rwanda’s medium-term development.
