Odenda Lumumba | Land Portal


Mr. Lumumba is a human rights advocate and activist, having worked on land and natural resource rights for over 21 years.  Odenda not only the Founder of the Kenya Land Alliance but is also a member of Golden Key International Honour Society. He graduated Cum Laude with a Masters   of Philosophy in Land and Agrarian Studies from the University of the Western Cape. He is currently enrolled for a PhD in Land and Agrarian Studies in the University of the Western Cape in South Africa. He has served as a commissioner on the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into Illegal and/or Irregular Allocation of Public Land in Kenya from July 2003 to June 2004 and as a member of the Technical Committee on Land, Property, Natural Resources and Environment at the Kenya National Delegates Constitutional Conference between 2003 and March 2005. From July 2008 to April 2009, he served on the Prime Minister’s Task Force on the Conservation of the Mau Forest Complex. He has served as a Civil Society African Region member of the Governing Council of the International Land Coalition from 2008-2013. He has contributed to a number of seminar papers and publications, including and not limited to: Ours by Right, Theirs by MightWho owns this Land?;  Corruption in Land Management in Kenya published by the Kenya Human Rights Commission; Land & Sustainable Development in Africa edited by Kojo Sebastian Amanor & Sam Moyo and published in 2008 by Zed Books Ltd, London & New York; and Klopp, J. and Lumumba, O. 2014 “Kenya and the ‘global land grab’: a view from below.” in Kaag, M. and Zoomers, A.
