Organizational profile

The Land Portal Foundation is an independent non-profit based in the Netherlands, delivering a clear strategy to draw together reliable and trustworthy evidence for use in program development, advocacy campaigning and policy formulation for better land governance.

Launched in March 2011 as a global hub for access to land information, the Land Portal website allows for the collection, sourcing, and searching of otherwise fragmented and inaccessible data and information on land governance and land use from diverse sources, such as governments, academia, international organizations, indigenous peoples and NGOs. The Land Portal brings together content from over 1,000 partner organizations.

Besides documenting land rights, the Portal also encourages social information exchange, debate and networking. By combining public data, published information, and first-hand knowledge, the Portal has built strong foundations as the online destination for land information.

We have set out an ambitious new five-year strategy for 2017-2022, aimed at improving the documentation of land governance information and informing global debates, but also with a strong focus on strengthening the information ecosystem as a whole. We hope to do that by raising awareness on Open Data principles, supporting the creation of a solid data infrastructure and build the capacities of information providers, in order to strengthen the flow of land governance information at all levels.

An element of this strategy is to work with liaisons across the world, that help us making sure the local perspectives are sufficiently brought forward and visible besides the global perspectives on land rights. This includes information in their native languages.

We are now seeking a part time lusophone countries liaison to join our dynamic and dispersed team!
