A certeza que os eventos críticos relacionados às mudanças climáticas afetam direta e indiretamente as atividades humanas surgiu, principalmente, com a divulgação do relatório do Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) de 2007. O referido relatório confirmou que os países menos avançados (PMAs), particularmente, os situados no continente africano, são considerados os mais vulneráveis aos efeitos das mudanças climáticas.

Land plays a vital and central role in the economic, social-cultural and political lives of both individuals and communities. Given its centrality in the socio-economic and political spheres, national goals such as economic development, poverty reduction, social and political stability are closely linked to land. Land provides the livelihood base for the bulk of the population especially in the rural areas where agriculture is the main occupation. Despite their importance, land and environment in Kenya have suffered decades of mismanagement that has led to the current state of degradation.

O presente trabalho propõe-se a debater a questão fundiária em Cabo Verde na contemporaneidade, a partir do caso paradigmático do Município de São Salvador do Mundo – Ilha de Santiago. Para tanto, pretende-se utilizar referenciais bibliográficos e documentais quem dêem conta da forma de apropriação dos terrenos desde o período colonial até o momento presente. Também serão utilizadas entrevistas realizadas durante pesquisa de campo que retratem a cosmologia local no uso da terra e na conformação de um território comunitário.


 


Aligning and Harmonizing the Livestock and Land Policies of Tanzania

In light of persisting land use conflicts and marginal productivity on village lands, a research in the captioned topic was deemed necessary. This report makes a review of policies on land and livestock agriculture behind the backdrop of the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania, policies on land and agriculture, and aspirations for land reform. Violations in land rights and prevailing tenure insecurity lasting for decades have skewed mindsets of many users and the land administrators. Policy implementation and enforcement are in dire need of enhancement.

Kilimo Kwanza and Small-Scale Producers: An Opportunity or a Curse?

This study sought to follow up the implementation of the Kilimo Kwanza initiative with the view to establish reliable facts on its significance to small-scale producers, mainly peasants and pastoralists. To achieve this, the study began by examining the perception of small-scale producers about Kilimo Kwanza and it assessed their participation in the implementation process. Moreover, the study scrutinized the proposed amendment of the Village Land Act and its implication to small-scale produces if carried out.
