These Amendments concern the Law on the Ownership and Use of Farmland. The Law regulates the ownership and use of agricultural lands. Agricultural lands may be the property of citizens, state, townships and juridical persons. Foreign juridical persons and foreign citizens may acquire use rights to agricultural land.

This Act makes provision for the taxation of ownership of private land. The annual rate of land tax shall be one and a half percent of the "cost" (not defined) of the land. In the case of forest land the value of trees shall not be included.

Land shall be divided according to its use into land used for agricultural purposes and non-agricultural land. Land owners and land users (natural and legal persons) using land on the territory of the Republic of Lithuania, which has been allotted to them by State bodies or which they possess by right of ownership, shall be liable to land taxation.

The objective of this Law is to increase the responsibility of users of natural resources (not defined) for the effective and economical utilization of the national resources which are at their disposal, and to compensate the amount spent by the State on the investigation of natural resources and on the measures implemented for the preservation of the amount and quality thereof.

The present Act governs the valuation of land in general and land covered by water in Nova Scotia. The Act lays down provisions relating, inter alia, to property liable to taxation and propert exempt from taxation, appointment of assessors, powers and duties of assessors, assessment roll.
