This Act concerns environmental impact assessment in Ontario, it consists of 43 sections and is divided into six parts. Part I is dedicated to the interpretation and application of the Act, Part II covers environmental assessment and is subdivided under the following titles: application for approval, Ministry review, decision on the application and other matters. Part II. 1 regulates in details class environmental assessment and Part II. 2 municipal waste disposal. Part III concerns tribunal proceedings, Part IV provincial officers and Part VI administration of the Act.

This Act concerns the assessment of the impact of human activities on the environment (57 sections). The Act contains provisions on property assessable (sect. 3), on the assessment of electricity generating facilities that use alternative or renewable energy (sect. 3.1), on property classes (sect. 7), on right of access (sect. 10) and on access to information and on offences for not furnishing information (sects. 11-13). The Act includes provisions on land assessment and valuation and on classification of land assessed, it provides for the assessment of mineral rights (sect.
General (O. Reg. 282/98).
This regulation implements the Assessment Act. It contains provisions related to the classes of real property (Part II) and to subclasses of real property (Part III). It specifies what constitutes conservation land and the related tax exemption provisions (Part IV). It provides for the settlement of disputes related to the managed forests property class (Part VI) and of disputes relating to conservation land (Part VII). Part VIII is dedicated to the assessment of pipelines.

Under section 1 of this Act, every alien has the same capacity to take by gift, conveyance, descent, devise, or otherwise, and to hold, possess, enjoy, claim, recover, convey, devise, impart and transmit real estate in Ontario as a natural born or a naturalized subject of Her Majesty.
