This brief presents a review of 161 Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs) submitted on behalf of 188 countries3 for COP 21 to determine the extent to which Parties made clear commitments to strengthen or expand the tenure and natural resource management rights of IP/LCs as part of their climate change mitigation plans or associated adaptation actions.4 Of the 161 INDCs submitted, 131 are from countries with tropical and subtropical forests.

This book made an attempt to bring together various legislative protections available to the tribals communities pertaining to the land and governance in the scheduled areas and the role of different institutions to achieve the goals enshrined in the Constitution. It examined the Fifth Schedule of the Constitution and its various provisions and special arrangements made for areas inhabited by Scheduled Tribes and the law relating to local self governance in these areas, primarily through village panchayat-an institution of local self governance.

Esse trabalho analisa as inter-relações entre campesinato e etnicidade a partir de um olhar comparativo sobre as trajetórias de dois grupos que se reconhecem como etnicamente diferenciados no contexto rural brasileiro. Compostos principalmente por famílias que tem buscado se afirmar como agricultoras, o Povo Indígena Tingüi-Botó (Feira Grande) e a Comunidade Quilombola Guaxinim (Cacimbinhas) estão localizados entre as zonas agrestina e sertaneja de Alagoas.

Os problemas decorrentes dos desastres “naturais” têm se intensificado no Brasil e no mundo. É diante desse contexto que a abordagem sobre a alteração nas dinâmicas territoriais dos sujeitos afetados por eventos dessa natureza é discutida neste trabalho. Nesse sentido, nosso objetivo é analisar a dinâmica de des-territorialização e re-territorialização na comunidade do Mutirão em Campina Grande, cidade do interior do Estado da Paraíba, a partir da ocorrência de um desastre “natural” proveniente de extremo de chuva que resultou em rompimento de reservatórios de água.

She examines the Traditional Leadership and Governance Framework Act and highlights key sections of the Act including the requirements for establishment of Traditional Councils, the status and role of traditional leaders. She reviews contested legislation including the Communal Land Rights Act, struck down by the Constitutional Court and the Traditional Courts Bill which threatened to turn rural citizens in the former bantustans into chiefly subjects.

Since Karamoja is richly endowed with gold, marble, iron ore, tungsten, limestone, oil and gas, it has attracted many investors, in particular since the protracted  armed conflicts in northern Uganda started fading away. Approximately  1 7,000 km2 or 62% of the total land area of Karamoja has been licensed for mineral  exploration  and exploitation (Kabiswa, 2014).
