Land conflicts are increasingly becoming common in Kenya's major urban areas and are blamed by scholars and
politicians alike on colonial planning and rule, which ended more than 40 years ago. The regulations on land use
I planning and public land allocation processes are also seen to have exacerbated the problems with the prevailing
institutional arrangements further providing the impetus for unequal access to the 'land resource. Corruption and
patronage coupled with the increasing population has ensured that the poor have limited access to land for housing.
This article argues that there is a transformation in the relationship between land, peasant communities and its members or comuneros. In the case of the communities of the Peruvian northern coast, this transformation links with a double dynamic: (i) the increasing external pressure on the resource from the private-national and transnational capitals, and (ii) the emergence of new means and motivations of access to land among the communal members.

The fact finding mission was carried out from 12.11 – 15.11 2012.

SITTWE, 31 May 2013 (IRIN) - Aid workers are calling for better health access for an estimated 140,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Myanmar’s western Rakhine State, most of them Rohingya Muslims.
Although a number of NGOs and government mobile clinics are providing basic health services inside the roughly 80 camps and settlements, they are limited, and emergency health referrals remain a serious concern, they say.
