The FAO Legal Office provides in-house counsel in accordance with the Basic Texts of the Organization, gives legal advisory services to FAO members, assists in the formulation of treaties on food and agriculture, for which the Director-General acts as Depositary, publishes legal studies and maintains a database (FAOLEX) of national legislation and international agreements concerning food and agriculture (including fisheries, forestry and water).

The present Law lays down provisions relating to land use planning and construction activities. In particular, the purpose of the Law is to use economically the soil according to the accepted principles of land use planning and to ensure and promote sound land use planning. Furthermore, all activities shall be carried out with a view to sustainable development.
Law on land use planning and public building law (Land Use Planning Law).
The present Act lays down provisions relating to land use planning in the Canton of Nidwald. In particular, it ensures an economical use of soil, regulated settlements with a view to conserve natural living space, the cultural heritage of the Canton, a sustainable development and coordination of competences. It aims also at the unification of the construction law.

Ley Orgánica de Ordenación Urbanística.
La presente Ley Orgánica de Ordenación Urbanística, tiene por objeto la ordenación del desarrollo urbanístico en todo el territorio nacional con el fin de procurar el crecimiento armónico de los centros poblados. El desarrollo urbanístico salvaguarda los recursos ambientales y la calidad de vida en los centros urbanos. La ordenación urbanística comprende el conjunto de acciones y regulaciones tendentes a la planificación, desarrollo, conservación y renovación de los centros poblados.
Land Law (Amendment No. 10), 1987.
This amendment of the Land Law 1987, establishes that the owner of a dwelling may, under specified conditions and subject to specified provisions, install on the roof of his dwelling a boiler for the heating of water by the sun (section 59A). Section 59B establishes that the owner of a dwelling may be disconnected from the central water or room heating system under specified conditions.
