Showing items 1 through 9 of 9.Malta’s partnership with FAO dates back to 1964, the year the country joined the Organization. Cooperation through emergency interventions in the 1970s enabled Malta’s successful eradication of African swine fever.
Lithuania became an official member of FAO in 1991, and FAO has since contributed more than €4.3 million to finance over 20 projects in the country. These initiatives centred on developing capacities in multiple sectors, including agriculture, forestry, fisheries, livestock and the environment.
Slovenia joined the Organization in 1993. Since then, cooperation has involved a variety of areas concerning sustainable agriculture and rural development. Today, responsible and sustainable management of fishery and forestry resources are major areas of FAO assistance.
This paper reviews the experiences of introducing land consolidation and land banking instruments in Central and Eastern Europe, largely to address the structural problems of small and fragmented farms.
