The present Act approves the Nunavik Inuit Land Claims Agreement. “Agreement” means the Land Claims Agreement between the Nunavik Inuit and Her Majesty The Queen in Right of Canada, signed on December 1, 2006, including any amendments made to it.
The present Act provides for the implementation of an agreement respecting Indian lands in Ontario. The text consists of 7 sections and 1 Schedule containing the Agreement between Indians and the government of Ontario relating to land or natural resources.
With the present Act the former Yukon Act is modernized and “Yukon” rather than “Yukon Territory” shall be the current usage standard.

According to the present Act, «real property» is lands, including mines and minerals, and buildings, structures, improvements, and other fixtures on, above, or below the surface of the land and includes an interest therein.
The present Act establishes a Board to be called the «Yukon Surface Rights Board», responsible for disputes concerning surface rights in respect of land in the Yukon Territory.

The present Act is also referred to as Natural Resources Transfer Agreement (N.R.T.A.). In particular, the purpose of the present Agreement is to transfer control over Crown lands and natural resources to the Province of Alberta.
The First Nations Land Management Act (FNLMA) was passed by the federal Parliament in 1999 on the initiative of fourteen Indian Act Bands wishing to escape the land management provisions of the Indian Act in order to improve their capacities and opportunities for economic development.
