The present Agreement is an initiative by 14 First Nations to take over the management and control of their lands and resources. The Agreement sets out the principle components of this new land management process.

The present Agreement is the first combined land, resources and self-government Agreement in the Northwest Territories. Canada, the Government of the Northwest Territories(GNWT) and the Tlicho are Parties to the Agreement.
Section 2 of the present Act establishes that the patents of lands included in the St. Peter’s Indian Reserve issued by His Majesty and the sales of such lands made on behalf of His Majesty in the said Reserve are hereby confirmed and made good. The text consists of 3 sections.
The present Act makes provisions for the settlement of differences between the governments of the Dominion of Canada and the Province of British Columbia respecting Indian Lands and certain other Indian Affairs in the afore-mentioned Province.
With the present Act the former Yukon Act is modernized and “Yukon” rather than “Yukon Territory” shall be the current usage standard.
