Door wonen, zorg en groene functies op elkaar te betrekken in plaats van te scheiden ontstaan nieuwe functiecombinaties die voldoen aan maatschappelijke behoeften, zoals groene woonmilieus, woon-zorgvoorzieningen of ontspanningsmogelijkheden. Bovendien spelen deze vormen in op de beleidsdoelen zoals extramuralisatie van de zorg, plattelandsvernieuwing en differentiatie in woonmilieus. Realisatie kent nog veel (institutionele) belemmeringen. Door een lerende aanpak via experimenten kunnen rond deze thematiek gebiedsinnovaties worden vormgegeven.
