The 2012 World Development Report on Gender Equality and Development finds that women's lives around the world have improved dramatically, but gaps remain in many areas. The authors use a conceptual framework to examine progress to date, and then recommend policy actions.

A two-year (2009–2010) action research study entitled “Experiences of Women in Asserting their Land Rights: the case of Bugesera District, Rwanda”, was carried out by Rwanda Women Network (RWN) in collaboration with the Makerere Institute of Social Research (MISR).
This book is the result of a recent field study conducted between May and July 2011 in Uganda by the Uganda Land Alliance. The ULA’s documentation team embarked on field trips in 8 different country districts (Amuru, Apac, Gulu, Pader, Hoima, Kyenjojo, Mubende and Jinja) to establish the progress women have made vis a vis their rights to land and identified individuals who have made gains in ‘fighting’ for their land rights. These persons were asked to share their stories.
