As 2018 came to a close, Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary named “justice” their Word of the Year. It was a top search throughout 2018, and for good reason. Justice remains out of reach for billions of people worldwide.
We have a chance to change that in 2019. That’s why we’re naming this the Year of Justice.
Many women around the world are working to improve their land rights. Yet the access to their land is often insecure. During this evening, you will hear stories by women who are involved in different initiatives at the grassroots level – from the Netherlands to Malawi.

Established in 2006, the Global Land Tool Network (GLTN) is celebrating 12 years as an alliance of diverse global, regional and national partners that contribute to poverty alleviation and sustainable development through improvements to security of tenure and land governance. During this period, the Network has positively influenced the global security of tenure agenda and shifted the thinking towards pro-poor inclusive approaches. Practical tools have been developed and tested at country level, security of tenure improvements provided for everyday people in local communities, innovative projects delivered via the clusters and key stakeholder capacity strengthened to approach the challenges with knowledge and confidence.

Following up the success of the 1st India Land and Development Conference, this second Annual Conference aims to further this Land-platform to connect local and global issues and discourses and focus conversations on how technology, decentralization, innovation and capacity contribute to improve land governance in India. Over three days, this one of its kind national event on land will catalyse connections among stakeholders, discourses and ideas and promote sharing of good practices, experiences, evidences, issues and challenges. With participants converging from different geographies, sectors and land-disciplines, ILDC2018 will provide a fertile ground to stimulate dialogues, partnerships and networks around land and development in India.
