Federal government to clear 400 hectares of land in Ekiti for allocation to farmers

The federal government, through its Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, FMARD has concluded arrangements to clear 400 hectares of farmlands at Iyemero Ekiti axis of the State’s agricultural processing zone as part of its intervention programmes code-named ‘Agriculture Jobs Plan’.

The information was disclosed at a meeting of the State Coordinator of the FMARD, Mr Olufemi Daramola with the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Dr Olabode Adetoyi in his office in Ado Ekiti.

Kratie land disputes ‘resolved’

The Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction said on Tuesday that it had completed handing out land concessions to 1,382 families in Kampong Damrei commune, in Kratie province’s Chhlong district.

Its statement came as some residents claimed they never received the land.

 

The ministry said the provincial administration and land division committee had separated families who were entitled to the land into three groups and completed handing it over on June 10.

Mayor blames pandemic for slow land delivery

The Otavi Town Council has vowed to fast track the allocation of plots after a number of residents complained they are yet to be presented with proof of ownership despite paying for the land almost a year ago. 
Mayor George Garab said the local authority will act with urgency to resolve the issue to allow residents to construct their homes. 
Garab attributed the delay to the Covid-19 pandemic and the resignation of former council CEO Moses Matyayi. 

Deputy Mayor orders Sub-City officials to issue title deeds to farmers around the city

The Deputy Mayor of Addis Ababa City Administration, Takele Uma (Eng.), has told city officials to take immediate action in granting farmers, who possess farming lands in the city’s surrounding area, with a legally binding land title deed.


The order comes after a discussion forum on activities to be carried out pertaining land audit and registration process was held with various officials in the city administration and various stakeholders. The meeting took place inside the Assembly Hall of the House of People’s Representatives (HPR) on Thursday.


Land acquisition, distribution to move faster under simplified guidelines – DAR

The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) has simplified the guidelines on land acquisition and distribution (LAD).

DAR Secretary John Castriciones explained this was made possible by “lumping together activities into major steps, done simultaneously, or a combination of both,” thus shortening the whole process to be undertaken by DAR and other CARP-implementing (Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program) agencies from 291 days to 112 days.  

Righting a wrong

Nearly 30 years after starting land reform, Namibia’s distribution of land ownership is still skewed. This is a colonial legacy. It is high time to return land to dispossessed communities. As a former colonial power guilty of terrible bloodshed, Germany should contribute to making that happen.

Land relief for Okahandja

RESIDENTS of Okahandja will get land relief after the town council yesterday announced they would be rolling out a land-delivery programme.

Some residents this month resorted to cleaning up earmarked erven as they are tired of renting and want their own property.

Lukas Alfons, a resident of Okahandja for the past 32 years, says rich people are buying land at the town, while they do not own anything.

Minister tells governors to speed up land allocation

Minister of Environment Say Sam Al has sent letters to 20 provincial governors telling them to provide relevant documents on land issues in natural resource protected areas.

This, as an inter-ministerial team begins to allocate land to citizens on the recommendation of Prime Minister Hun Sen.

The ministry’s secretary of state and spokesman Neth Pheaktra said: “The ministry manages, protects and conserves over 7.3 million hectares located in 20 provinces.

DAR conducts door-to-door distribution of land ownership certificates to agrarian reform beneficiaries

The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) for the first time conducted a door-to-door distribution of certificates of land ownership award (CLOAs) to ensure that farmer-beneficiaries in Laguna would receive their land titles.

Through the “Serbisyong DAR-to-Door,” Secretary John Castriciones last July 1 distributed to 43 agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) their CLOAs covering a total of 38.7 hectares of agricultural land.
