Huge tracks of undocumented land a concern for registration officials

Siem Reap provincial deputy governor Ly Samrith expressed concern that land registration plans for residents scheduled to be completed by late 2021 could not be achieved because 80 per cent of the land had not been registered.

Land dispute issues are a major factor that poses a hindrance to the registration process in the province, Samrith said.

 

About 10–15% of city land viable as urban farms

SOME 10–15% of the land area in cities could be converted for use as fruit and vegetable farms, the Department of Agriculture (DA) said.


Agriculture Secretary William D. Dar made the estimate while discussing a model urban farm project run by the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) at the end of National Farmers and Fisherfolk Month.


The DA is pushing urban agriculture as a possible strategy to relieve pressure on supply chains after major cities were cut off from the food-producing hinterland during the quarantine.


Lagos to create more Islands to address land scarcity

The state government says the projects will be financed through Public-Private Partnership.

The Lagos State Government says it will continue to create more man-made islands at its waterfront across the state, to further increase land availability for Housing and Infrastructural Development.

The Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Mr Ahmed Abdullahi, said this in Ikeja on Wednesday at the Year 2020 Ministerial Press Briefing to mark the first year of Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration.

Parkop says Taurama Village Development Is a Failure

Port Moresby’s suburban jumble that is Taurama Valley has been condemned as a failure and a disaster by city Governor Powes Parkop.

He said the valley, a large tract of customary land that stretches from the fringes of East Boroko to Taurama Barracks and further into Taurama Beach, which had been sold off cheaply by landowners, had seen an unprecedented boom in unplanned construction of suburban homes and businesses, and now home to tens of thousands of city residents.

Somaliland, EU Launch Urban Development Programme

(MENAFN - SomTribune) Somaliland government and the European Union (EU) have launched the Berbera Urban Development Project worth 7.5 Million Euros aimed at supporting the inclusive and sustainable development of the coastal city.

The project, according to the Ministry of Planning and National Development will strengthen the capacity of the municipality in urban planning, improving the waste management system as well as stimulating employment and entrepreneurship for urban communities.

LONDON - With urban populations surging around the world, cities will struggle to keep residents safe from fast-growing heat risks turbo-charged by climate change, scientists and public health experts warned this week.


Heat is already the leading cause of deaths from extreme weather in countries including the United States. The problem is particularly severe in cities, where temperature extremes are rising much faster than the global average, they said.

COPENHAGEN, Oct 11 (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - From penalising cars to planting trees, dozens of mayors from every continent pledged cleaner air on Friday in a bid to improve urban health and tackle climate change.


More than 90% of people breathe dirty air, causing death and disease, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
