This Act regulates ownership of farmlands. Section 2 provides that any of the following may, directly or indirectly, take, acquire, receive or hold an interest in farmland being; (b) a family farm corporation; (c) a municipality; (d) a local government district; and (e) an agency of government. Section 6 provides for the continuation of the Manitoba Farm Lands Ownership board. Section 8 deals with the powers of the Board. Section 9(1) states that Where there are reasonable grounds and upon prior notice to all persons affected, having given any of such persons a reasonable opportunity to be heard, the board may, determine that an interest in farmland has been taken, acquired, received or held in contravention of this Act. The onus is outlined in section 10, and it follows that powers of investigation are dealt with in section 11. Section 14 deals with Failure to comply with this Act or subsequent orderunder it, and Offences and Penalties can be found in section 15, followed by Appeals in section 16. The Lieutenant Governor in Council is given the power to make regulations in section 17.
