Attitudes towards the land rights of Sami reindeer herders have changed considerably during the last 100 years. So, too, has consideration of how such rights should be treated by Land Consolidation Courts. This paper reviews changes in attitudes to the Sami land rights with respect to how these are considered in Land Consolidation Courts in southern Sami areas in Norway. The review also considers changing attitudes regarding the competence of Land Consolidation Courts to deal with such matters.

„Kísértet járja be Európát és Észak-Amerikát: az erdőpusztulás kísértete.” Ezzel a drámai hangvételű mondattal kezdődik a World Resources 1986.

This article analyses the impact of soil sealing associated with three decades of urban growth in the Mediterranean coastal municipality of Elche (Alicante, Spain) on local soil resources. Geographical Information System (GIS) and remote sensing (RS) techniques were used to obtain and analyse different types of thematic information relating to urban growth and soil resources (soil class, land use capability, and physiographic classes).

This paper analyzes how imperfections of property rights affect allocation of assets andwelfare, using micro-survey data from Bulgaria. Co-ownership of assets is widespread inmany countries due to inheritance. Central and Eastern Europe offers an interestingnatural experiment to assess the effects of such rights imperfections because of the assetrestitution process in the 1990s.

In this pilot study, we examine the relationship between the organisation of property rights and the economic importance of forestry on the one hand and the degree to which integrative nature conservation is formally implemented in forest policy on the other hand. Further, we are interested in whether political institutions moderate this relationship.

The article examines the key aspect of land relations – the possibility of appropriation and existing approaches to the re-distribution of land rent. Examination of rent relations begins with the analysis of approaches to the solution of this problem in classical economic theory. We have systematized existing approaches to the definition of the essence of rent. We have classified the types of rent with their detailed characteristics. We have established existing problems in the realization of rent relations at present time.

Soil sealing has been regarded as a key environmental problem since sealed soils lose several of their functions determining a reduction in land productivity and quality. Unfortunately, the analysis of changes in land-use carried out through the use of traditional data sources allows a relatively rough estimation of this phenomenon. The aim of this paper is to illustrate a procedure quantifying over time the soil sealing rate at the country scale. Italy was chosen as the study area due to its spatially-complex urbanization patterns.

This study gives an overview of the theoretical foundations, empirical procedures and derived results of the literature identifying determinants of land prices. Special attention is given to the effects of different government support policies on land prices. Since almost all empirical studies on the determination of land prices refer either to the net present value method or the hedonic pricing approach as a theoretical basis, a short review of these models is provided. While the two approaches have different theoretical bases, their empirical implementation converges.

An approach to derive relationships for defining land degradation and desertification risk and developing appropriate tools for assessing the effectiveness of the various land management practices using indicators is presented in the present paper. In order to investigate which indicators are most effective in assessing the level of desertification risk, a total of 70 candidate indicators was selected providing information for the biophysical environment, socio-economic conditions, and land management characteristics.

Density and distribution of red deer and roe deer in relation to habitat structure and feed sources was studied using simple faeces transects and monitoring plots during winter in a floodplain forest along the Morava River, Czech Republic. Deer densities detected on the plots and parallel simple faeces transects were comparable, so we used the faeces transects, thus enabling us to gather data from a larger part of the studied area. Densities of both species were relatively high (9.6 and 7.0 ind./square km for red and roe deer, resp.).
