Food, land, and water systems face daunting challenges in the future, and the body of research exploring these challenges is growing rapidly. This note is part of a series developed by the CGIAR Foresight Initiative to summarize what we know today about the future of various aspects of food systems. When Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, sparking fears of a global food crisis, IFPRI responded rapidly to the need for information and policy advice to address the crisis. From the first moments of the conflict, a new IFPRI blog series provided critical information and insights into the impacts on food security, caused by rising food, fertilizer, and fuel prices and trade disruptions, for vulnerable countries and regions.
In the framework of the EU-RBA Joint Programme on Gender Transformative Approaches for Food Security and Nutrition (JP GTA), FAO, IFAD, WFP and the CGIAR GENDER Impact Platform developed “Guidelines for measuring gender transformative change in the context of food security, nutrition and sustainable agriculture†aimed at enhancing the capacity of research and development partners to design, implement, monitor and evaluate gender transformative interventions.
The participation, engagement, and interaction of local actors in the Innovahubs is an essential part of the development and strengthening of the subnational innovation systems, so knowing and understanding the nature, identity and presence, and involvement of each type of actor over time is essential to understand their behavior and motivations to partake in the knowledge and innovation processes. Therefore, this report seeks to update on the actors participating in the relevant activities in the Innovahub, their activities, and the type of relations they have with other actors.
The lower Mekong region, encompassing Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam, heavily relies on agriculture for livelihoods. However, both the historical and current agricultural systems face a plethora of sustainability challenges, including in relation to the health of soils to support agricultural production and livelihoods. To improve the sustainability of agricultural systems, nature-based solutions in the form of microbial bioinoculants are being combined with agroecology principles as approaches to improve soil health.
