This report aims to evaluate the economic, social and ecological impacts of large-scale land concessions to plant rubber and make recommendations for the future management of land in Lao PDR. Study focused on Champassak and Salavane provinces from July 2007 to July 2008. It was the product of a collaboration between the Centre for Research and Information on Land and Natural Resources of the National Land Management Authority, Office of Prime Minister, Laos, the Foundation for Ecological Recovery, and the Faculty of Social Sciences, Chiang Mai University.

This report presents the first nationwide analysis of land concessions and leases in the Lao PDR. The project is a joint effort between the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE), the Centre for Development and Environment (CDE) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), to consolidate the most comprehensive national database on state land leases and concessions.
Discussion paper on the legal framework of state land leases and concessions in Lao PDR. This paper summarizes the relevant laws and regulations and indicate contradictions in the legislation wherever contradictions exist. Across Africa, Asia and Latin America, investors are increasingly approaching rural communities seeking land for logging, mining, and agribusiness ventures. Even in those situations where the investors have followed FPIC guidelines and undertaken a formal “consultation” with the community, these consultations are generally conducted in a context of significant power and information asymmetries. Part of the power imbalance comes from communities’ lack of information about the value of community lands and natural resources.
The Annual Country Reviews reflect upon current land issues in the Mekong Region, and has been produced for researchers, practitioners and policy advocates operating in the field. Specialists have been selected from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam to briefly answer the following two questions:
1. What are the most pressing issues involving land governance in your country?
2. What are the most important issues for the researcher on land?

This Act provides that the Concessions Act, 1939, other than section 30, Part 4 and section 40, shall cease to apply to stool lands.
This Regional Legislative Decree, consisting of 18 articles, adapts Law No. 54/2005 on the ownership of water resources to the legislation of the Autonomous Region of Madeira. It regulates the following land ownership issues: Land near the crest of the cliffs reached or inserted in consolidated urban centres; Process of recognition of private property on public land parcels; Administrative easements on private plots of beds and public water banks; Areas threatened by the sea or floods, etc.
