Production system and marketing study was undertaken using on 120 sample households to identify and describing goat production systems, to determine production potentials, opportunities and challenges of goat’s production and to describe marketing systems. The study was carried out in Bonke Woreda of Gamo Gofa Zone, southern Ethiopia, with the objectives of assessment of fattening and marketing system, and effect of concentrate supplementation with locally available feeds on fattening performance of indigenous cattle. The study involved survey to assess cattle fattening and marketing practices, and action research to evaluate the effect of homemade concentrate from locally available feed resources on fattening performance and economic return of indigenous cattle.

The study was carried out in Meta Robi district, West Shewa Zone, Oromia Regional State to identify the types and sources of feeds, constraints in feed production, transportation, utilization and supply, estimate annual feed produced, maintenance requirement, annual feed balance and determine the mineral status of natural pasture and soil samples. Secondary data sources and field observations, key informants discussions and semi-structured questionnaire interview were employed to generate data.

The Basin Focal Project Volta (BFP Volta) was developed along three main steps:

Assessment of present conditions of the distribution of rural poverty, of farming

systems with their productivity and water productivity;

Analysis of opportunities and risks, especially under the double pressure of demography

and possible climate change, and modeling of water resources to identify sensitivity of

water allocation to development and climate scenarios; and

Identification of research gaps and implementation plan.

This study attempted to investigate the beef cattle production system and opportunities for market orientation in southern Ethiopia, Borena Zone. The specific objectives of the study were to characterize cattle production systems, assessment of marketing systems, assess seasonality of domestic cattle meat consumption; and assess potentials and constraints of export abattoirs in Ethiopia. To achieve these objectives, secondary and primary data were used. Export abattoirs, producers, and butcheries interview were sources of primary data.
