The FAO Legal Office provides in-house counsel in accordance with the Basic Texts of the Organization, gives legal advisory services to FAO members, assists in the formulation of treaties on food and agriculture, for which the Director-General acts as Depositary, publishes legal studies and maintains a database (FAOLEX) of national legislation and international agreements concerning food and agriculture (including fisheries, forestry and water).

The present Act provides for the management, regulation and administration of the ownership and use of land for socio-economic development and environmental well-being of the country through efficient and effective land administration, security of land tenure, equal opportunity to land, facilitation of operation of land market, effective use of land resources and conservation of the ecosystem.

Article 18 shall be amended to add the following wording: “Normative monetary valuation of land shall be performed as follows: (a) urban land irrespectively of the purposeful use thereof non less than once in 5-7 years; (b) agricultural land located outside inhabited areas non less than once in 5-7 years, while non-agricultural land – non less than once in 7-10 years”.
