Malgré les tendances à l'urbanisation, l'agriculture reste la principale source de revenus pour plus des trois quarts de la population. Pour les agriculteurs des basses terres fertiles, les droits de propriété foncière privée ont permis de rétablir leurs moyens de subsistance après des décennies de conflits violents.
