Methodological challenges for institutionalizing participatory research and development
Modelling socioeconomic determinants for cultivation and in-situ conservation of Vitex doniana Sweet (black plum), a wild-harvested economic plant in Benin
Background: Cultivation is the most appropriate management option when both demand and harvesting of wild plant species increase beyond natural production levels. In the current study we made the assumption that, besides the intrinsic biological and ecological characteristics of the species, the decision to cultivate and/or to conserve an overharvested wild plant species is triggered by the socioeconomic factors such as land tenure and size, origin of respondents, gender, and users’ knowledge of the plant phenology.

Modelling vector-borne and other parasitic diseases. Proceedings of a workshop
Session one of this report highlights ILRAD's research programs and the modelling needs of ILRAD and FAO. Session two deals with vector and helminth population dynamics with particular reference to ticks, tsetse and helminth. Parasite transmission and host parasite interaction are discussed in sessions three and four respectively. These two sessions deal with theileria, trypanosomes and leishmania. Parasite variations and polymorphism is the topic of session five. Session six discusses the effect of disease control programs and session seven reviews modelling systems.

CPWF Mekong Project 5 is divided into two components, the first relating to coordination, and the second to the development, management and maintenance of multiple stakeholder platforms.

The Basin Leader leads this project team, which is responsible for coherence of the overall BDC research program through ensuring BDC research remains problem-, opportunity- and impact-focused.

Methods for the quantification of emissions at the landscape level for developing countries in smallholder contexts
The GHG (greenhouse gas) mitigation potential from the agricultural sector is set to increase in coming decades. Much of the agricultural mitigation potential lies in developing countries where systems are dominated by smallholder farmers. There is therefore an opportunity for smallholders not only to gain environmental benefits from carbon friendly practices, but also to receive much needed financial input, either directly from carbon financing, or from development agencies looking to support carbon friendly activities.
