Capacities and needs assessment of gender research in CGIAR

LandLibrary Resource
Dezembro, 2021
Kenya

"In November 2020, CGIAR commissioned Michigan State University’s Center for Gender in Global Context (GenCen) to conduct a capacities and needs assessment (CNA) to determine, with the participation of stakeholders throughout CGIAR and (to a lesser extent) the broader agricultural research for development (AR4D) network, how the GENDER Platform could best strengthen the capacities needed to a

Performance of a hermetic device and neem (Azadirachta indica) in storing wheat seed: Evidence from participatory household trials in central Bangladesh

LandLibrary Resource
Dezembro, 2021
Bangladesh

Smallholder farmers in Bangladesh often use low-density polyethylene (LDPE) bags contained within woven polypropylene bags to store wheat seed during the summer monsoon that precedes winter season planting. High humidity and temperature during this period can encourage increased seed moisture and pests, thereby lowering seed quality.

Estimation of soybean grain yield from multispectral high-resolution UAV data with machine learning models in west Africa

Global

Soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) is a leguminous and oil crop with rapidly growing importance and demand in Africa following the increasing demand for oil and livestock and poultry feed in sub-Saharan Africa. However, soybean productivity is low in most countries of sub-Saharan Africa, especially in West Africa, where productivity is below one ton per ha.

Digital extension, price risk, and farm performance: experimental evidence from Nigeria

Nigeria

Despite decades of investment in agricultural extension, technology adoption among farmers and agricultural productivity growth in Sub-Saharan Africa remain slow. Among other shortcomings, extension systems often make recommendations that do not account for price risk or spatial heterogeneity in farmers' growing conditions.

Evaluation of the efficacy of Flupyradifurone against Bemisia tabaci on cassava in Tanzania

LandLibrary Resource
Dezembro, 2021
Global

A novel butenolide insecticide—flupyradifurone (Sivanto SL 200)—was evaluated for efficacy against cassava-colonizing Bemisia tabaci whitefly under laboratory, screenhouse and field conditions. LC50 values from leaf disc spray assays were comparable for both flupyradifurone (12.7 g a.i/100 L) and imidacloprid (12.6 g a.i/100 L).

Report of the global online survey to identify key knowledge and capacity gaps on diagnostics and surveillance of pests & diseases in targeted countries

Global

An online survey was co-designed in collaboration with CGIAR Germplasm Health Units (GHUs) leaders and social scientists of the Plant Health Initiative (PHI), with the objective to identify and map the key knowledge and capacity gaps on lab/field detection, characterization, and surveillance of P&D of local and regional NPPOs in targeted countries.

Receptor-like Kinases (LRR-RLKs) in response of plants to biotic and abiotic stresses

LandLibrary Resource
Dezembro, 2021
Global

Plants live under different biotic and abiotic stress conditions, and, to cope with the adversity and severity, plants have well-developed resistance mechanisms. The mechanism starts with perception of the stimuli followed by molecular, biochemical, and physiological adaptive measures.

Tephritid fruit fly species composition, seasonality, and fruit infestations in two central African agro-ecological zones

LandLibrary Resource

Global

Bactrocera dorsalis and several Africa-native Ceratitis species are serious constraints to fruit
production in sub-Saharan Africa. A long-term trapping and fruit collection study was conducted
(2011–2016) in two contrasting agro-ecological zones (AEZs) of Cameroon to determine fruit fly

Adaptability and Stability of Faba Bean (Vicia faba L.) Accessions under Diverse Environments and Herbicide Treatments

LandLibrary Resource
Dezembro, 2021
Global

The adaptability and stability of 37 faba bean (Vicia faba L.) accessions with different levels of tolerance to metribuzin or imazethapyr was assessed across 12 season–location–herbicide experiments. Significant Genotype x environment (GE) interaction was found for the days to flowering (DFLR), plant height (PLHT) and grain yield (GY).

Identification of genomic regions associated with agronomic and disease resistance traits in a large set of multiple DH populations

Breeding maize lines with the improved level of desired agronomic traits under optimum and drought conditions as well as increased levels of resistance to several diseases such as maize lethal necrosis (MLN) is one of the most sustainable approaches for the sub-Saharan African region.
