The Act provides for acquisition of private land by the Crown and related procedures.The Act consists of 36 sections divided into 8 Parts: Preliminary (I); Compulsory Acquisition of land and Abandonment of Acquisition (II); Appointment and Powers of Board of Assessment (III); Determination of Small Claims for Compensation (IV); Provisions Governing Assessment of Compensation, etc.
Land Acquisition (Promoters) Act.
Subject to the provisions of this Act, a promoter may acquire land compulsorily. A “promoter” means any corporation, company or person desirous of acquiring land under the provisions of this Act. The Promoter shall apply to the Minister for the acquisition of lands. A compulsory acquisition shall be approved by the General Assembly.
Land Tax (Appeal) Rules
Any owner, whose return has been rejected under section 7 of the Land Tax Act and for which an assessment has been made, may object to the valuation with the Commissioner of Lands and Surveys who may refer the matter to the Judge in Chambers (sect. 11). The notice of appeal required by section 11 of the Land Tax Act shall be in Form 1 in the Schedule hereto.
Land Tax Act, 1982.
Land includes, inter alia, lagoons and open waters. "Agricultural land" means land outside the limits of Suburban lands, Beach lands or Towns. The Chief Valuer shall be appointed for purposes of this Act under section 3. Owners of lands situated outside the town limits shall submit a return to the Chief Valuer within three months of acquisition or entry into force of the present Act as the case may be (sect. 5).
Belize Land Development Authority Act.
There is established as a body corporate the Belize Land Development Authority whose functions include: (a) the acquisition, development and improvement of land including infrastructure such as drainage and irrigation; (b) to lease or sell land especially to small farmers; (c) engage in land development projects; (d) to sell or export produce; (e) trade in fertilizers, agricultural chemicals, foodstuffs and other agricultural commodities; (e) other functions relating to agricultural development (sect. 3).
