    We  highlight the mysterious liquidity that oversees the interpretation of the nature of the relation sea and cities, using to hyperbole from James Conrad in " Heart of Darkness ", while the reference to Saskia Sassen highlights the need of strong policies in the governance of reciprocity relationships. The heart of darkness continues to envelop the sea-land relations , as witnessed by the suffering of migrants on the sea and also the new faces of the suffering city ( migrant's reception centers in Italy) . It is believed that culture has a role in unraveling the mystery.

    A concise summary of the state of knowledge and experience concerning sustainable forest management, prepared as an input to the World Bank's Forest Policy Implementation Review and Strategy. An overview of experiences gained from different forest management systems is given, followed by a discussion of the outlook for forest resources and for forest product markets. Market, policy and institutional failure is analysed and appropriate responses are outlined. Finally, approaches to international co-operation are discussed.

    A potent argument for bioenergy development lies in the ability of the sector to unlock agricultural potential by bringing in much needed investments to raise agricultural productivity to spur food security and poverty reduction. This document presents the BEFS Analytical Framework (AF) developed to test this argument. Agriculture lies at the heart of the BEFS AF and allows governments to consider viable pro-poor strategies for bioenergy development.

    This case study demonstrates strengths and weaknesses of the Bioenergy Environmental Impact Analysis framework (BIAS) in its draft form of 2009. The evaluation was conducted on the 21 000 ha bioethanol project of SEKAB near Bagamoyo, Tanzania. The study shows that the BIAS framework is a useful tool in guiding the analysis of biofuel projects. It also underlines evidence that substantial site-specific data are required to sufficiently evaluate impact on all environmental areas: biodiversity, water, soil and greenhouse gases (GHG), especially soil carbon.

    Invasive tree species are now considered to be a threat to the biological diversity of Southern Africa. Most of the invasive tree species in Southern Africa were either deliberate or accidental introductions. Most of the invasive tree species are exotic, with only one or two being indigenous. These invasive exotic tree species are causing significant environmental and economic damage to the ecosystems of the region.

    This Blueprint for EUROSCAPE 2020 proposes to undertake a radically new strategic operational approach for the European Union when defining targets for its territorial policies. The key principles are: (1) to establish a policy monitoring for rural development on the basis of a landscape functions; (2) introduce new spatial planning instruments to support Polycentric Regions and Vital Bridges; and (3) develop new forms of governance involving local and regional authorities, people and decision-makers.

This summary outlines the type of client who could be targeted by the bank – the core borrowing group, the ways in which the bank could market its services to the desired core clientele, the type of loans for which a demand is clear, the enterprise types for which credit-financed investment appears to be most profitable, the regional considerations and, finally, the personnel requirements within the bank.
