This coming weekend, Openhack will be hosting Openhack Gothernburg 2019.  Openhack is a collaborative community where ideas and knowledge are exchanged in order to solve humanitarian challenges through open source development.  Hackathons are physical meetings that take place and innovations are sparked to life. This is where tech volunteers, aid organizations, social actors, and sponsors together in the same building to work together.

Along with our colleagues at Plan B and Contecht, a Land Portal case study will be presented in Gothenburg.  In January 2019 Plan B and Contecht started a new project in collaboration with the Land Portal Foundation in order to develop a tool which can manage and visualize spatial data and in combination with other data types and content types, such as surveys for example.

The case study to be presented is based on the spatial component that we are now developing together. This entails a new spatial data and information component which can manage, visualize and map different types of spatially explicit data, information and content types. So far we have developed a functioning prototype which is a stand alone spatial interface that can visualize spatial data sets and other content types, for example surveys and other content hosted on the Land Portal platform.

The objective of partaking in the Hackathon is to suggest and develop additional features to our newly developed spatial component which visualizes spatial data combined with various other content types like blog posts, surveys and more.  Some more specific goals which we have stated for the Open Hack participants is to either suggest new visualization types for the viewer for both spatial and non-spatial data, data improving services based on data mining and machine learning or techniques and suggestions on data processing and data management of  great data volumes.
