Impact of decades of structural adjustment programmes forgotten. Sceptical about claims that land grabs can be stopped within 3 years. Looks at variety of responses attempting to address power inequalities at local levels. Research a not unproblematic area. Concludes with case studies of legal empowerment in Mozambique and Namati’s community land protection programme.

The Sustainable Rangeland Management Project (SRMP) supports joint village land use planning and the protection of rangelands for local rangeland users. The project is implemented by the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries Tanzania, the National Land Use Planning Commission, the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), and local civil society organizations. The project activities have been funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and Irish Aid through the International Land Coalition (ILC).

En el presente trabajo se realiza un análisis comparativo de la dinámica del pastoreo en dos comunidades de la puna o altiplano jujeño, a fin de identificar las diversas estrategias empleadas para reducir los riesgos y la incertidumbre asociada a la actividad pastoril. La comunidad de Lagunillas del Farallón se ubica en el extremo noroeste de la puna de la provincia de Jujuy, donde los pastores crían principalmente llamas y cabras con un sistema de rotación estival.
