The FAO Legal Office provides in-house counsel in accordance with the Basic Texts of the Organization, gives legal advisory services to FAO members, assists in the formulation of treaties on food and agriculture, for which the Director-General acts as Depositary, publishes legal studies and maintains a database (FAOLEX) of national legislation and international agreements concerning food and agriculture (including fisheries, forestry and water).

Land and Conveyancing Law Reform Act 2009 (Section 100) Regulations 2010 (S.I. No. 653 of 2010).

These Regulations prescribe the form of notice to be used for the purposes of section 100(1) of the Land and Conveyancing Law Reform Act 2009. Section 100 (1) provides that a mortgagee or any other person for the time being entitled to receive, and give a discharge for, the mortgage debt may sell or concur with any other person in selling the mortgaged property provided that a notice in the prescribed form has been served on the mortgagor warning of the possibility of such sale.

These Regulations prescribe the form of notice to be used for the purposes of section 103 (2) of the Land and Conveyancing Law Reform Act 2009. Section 103 (2) prescribes that, within 28 days after completion of the sale, the mortgagee shall serve a notice in the prescribed form on the mortgagor containing information relating to the sale.

Regional Law No. 1908-OD “On objects of cultural heritage”.

This Regional Law regulates relations in the sphere of conservation, protection and management of the objects of cultural heritage. Objects of cultural and historical heritage shall be considered areas and objects identified as such and recorded in the state register of the objects of cultural and historical heritage. Regional administration shall validate mapping of the boundaries of the areas of cultural heritage and regime of land tenure within them. Economic activities and movement of motor vehicles within areas of cultural heritage shall be restricted.

The Act (59 sections) is divided into 6 Parts: Preliminary (I); Object and duties (II); Administration (III); Conservation and rehabilitation of land (IV); Appeals (V); Miscellaneous (VI).The Act establishes the Soil Conservation Council, soil conservation districts and boards. The main instruments of the Act are assessment of land (initiated by the Minister), district plans (developed by the Boards), voluntary property plans and soil conservation orders (issued by the Board or the Conservator).

This Regional Law regulates relations on land tenure and protection of land. Regional Legislative assembly shall have the following competence in the sphere of land protection: (a) reserve land, also through buyout of land plots, for public and municipal needs; (b) proclamation of protected areas; (c) establishment of minimum and maximum dimensions of land plots of public land allotted for agricultural purposes, farming, horticulture and stockbreeding; (d) establishment of cases of gratuitous allotment of public and municipal land to natural and legal persons (art. 2).
