The project aims to preserve forest ecosystems in the Pacific and thus contribute to climate change mitigation. To this end it is supporting three island states in creating the conditions necessary for par-ticipation in an international financing mechanism for reducing emissions from the forest sector (REDD+). Together with the partners it is developing REDD+ strategies and policies and boosting capabilities in the field of measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) at national level.
Objectives and measures of the project include the efforts to increase resilience to climate change and improve livelihoods of the people of the Pacific Islands through targeted strengthening of capacity in adaptive co-management and restoration of mangroves and associated ecosystems in each of the selected countries.
The objective of this project is to improve the management of the marine and coastal biodiversity of high volcanic islands (Fiji, Solomons, Vanuatu) and flat atolls (Kiribati, Tonga, Tuvalu). The project will undertake economic analyses of marine and coastal ecosystems (TEEB) in six partner countries as well as regionally (Ocean – TEEB) and incorporate the results into national development planning.
