The webinar, organized by the UNECE Working Party on Land Administration (WPLA), follows a study on ecosystems and security in land administration. It explores the complex landscape shaped by global megatrends and sector-specific drivers, emphasizing the role of technology and digitalization in land administration.

Face à ces situations, on observe une mobilisation croissante des concepts de justice socio-spatiale et environnementale dans les travaux de recherche visant à les décrire et à analyser les différentes formes de résistance ou de contestation qu’elles suscitent. Mais ces concepts reposent implicitement ou explicitement sur des théories de l’État et de la citoyenneté supposées universelles. Le colloque a pour objectif de confronter ces concepts aux relations sociales spécifiques entre l’Etat et les citoyens, dans différents contextes du Sud global.

NASA’s Applied Remote Sensing Training Program (ARSET) has opened a new open, online webinar series: Introduction to Lightning Observations and Applications. This three-part, introductory training focuses on global and regional lightning data products that can be applied to disaster risk preparedness.

As the intensity and frequency of extreme weather events are likely to increase due to climate change impacts, lightning activity will likely increase as well, causing more power outages, increased risks of wildfire ignition, and increased numbers of injuries and fatalities. Therefore, information about lightning activity is critical for better preparedness against these disasters.

NASA’s Applied Remote Sensing Training Program (ARSET) has opened a new open, online webinar series: Large Scale Applications of Machine Learning using Remote Sensing for Building Agriculture Solutions. Remote sensing data is becoming crucial to solve some of the most important environmental problems, especially pertaining to agricultural applications and food security. Participants will become familiar with data format and quality considerations, tools, and techniques to process remote sensing imagery at large scale from publicly available satellite sources, using cloud tools such as AWS S3, Databricks, and Parquet. Additionally, participants will learn how to analyze and train machine learning models for classification using this large source of data to solve environmental problems with a focus on agriculture.

This is the first webinar in the series ‘State of Land in the Mekong region.’ This series highlights the evolving environment of land governance in this dynamic region.

This webinar will explore what access to remedy might look like for communities in the global carbon market system, with a focus on issues of land and resources tenure. Hearing from communities impacted by carbon markets and experts in grievance mechanism design, the webinar will highlight the key features necessary for accessible, dependable, and credible grievance mechanisms. The discussion will offer critical input to the proposed grievance mechanism for markets established under Article 6.4 of the UNFCCC Paris Agreement. 

Having secure land tenure, ensuring people's confidence in accessing, controlling and utilizing their land, is crucial for promoting sustainable land management practices. It also plays a key role in building resilience against the impacts of climate change, including extreme weather events, rising sea levels, and increased desertification due to higher temperatures.

This session brings together a range of actors to discuss ways to improve land use and set in motion a renewed agenda on the critical role that land tenure security and land access play in climate action.
