As the development of Liberia’s natural wealth intensifies, a coherent set of policies that address questions of persistent gender inequality, sustainable rural livelihoods and long-term security of access to natural resources is needed. The capacity of rural women to maintain the local food economy must be preserved and enhanced, as must their ability to make informed decisions regarding the sustainable exploitation of natural resources.

Over the last 50 years, most Asian countries have gone through a shift from subsistence agricultural systems to industrialized economies. In Indonesia, the major shift came in 1966, when General Suharto successfully staged a military coup. Under his presidency, Indonesia experienced the “New Order”. A key aspect of this regime was trade and industrial expansion. Changes were made to foreign and domestic investment laws to facilitate growth, including the removal of most controls on private investments.

El presente estudio es una reflexión en torno a los primeros impactos sociales de la instauración del proyecto mega minero en su fase de exploración en la parroquia amazónica de Tundayme, en el que sus pobladores vivencian distintos conflictos locales a raíz de la presión extractiva. Se analizan los vínculos territoriales de comunidades campesinas que a raíz de las leyes de reforma agraria se trasladan a los territorios amazónicos y que en la actualidad se enfrentan al incumplimiento de la normativa ambiental por parte de la compañía ECUACORRIENTE S.A.

Reflecting on both the Mining Code of 1886 and the subsequent amendments administered to said code in 1892, this investigation endeavors to evaluate the immense impact that its implementation caused in Ecuador’s geographic space. These laws inaugurated criteria for the demarcation of mining properties; noteworthy acts that strengthened the state’s dominion over subsoil and the obtention of perks concerning concessionaires. The adoption of new mining law principles facilitated the arrival of foreign investors interested in the exploitation of gold-bearing mineral deposits.
