Azerbaijan has set the course for the economy to reduce its dependence on oil by promoting new drivers of growth. This publication emphasizes the need for diversification, particularly in the agriculture, tourism, and manufacturing sectors. By 2025, under the Strategic Roads Maps of the Government of Azerbaijan, a more diversified economy should take shape led by these three sectors. Bold reforms need to strengthen areas of the economy that could otherwise impede this transition, and policy makers must resolutely stay on the reform path.

As African cities expand so does the pressure to improve infrastructure and extend key public services for the growing urban populations. With limited tax receipts, local governments are struggling to finance new urban development or even maintain existing infrastructure. As land has inherent advantages in generating revenue, Land-based financing (LBF) is being seriously considered or piloted as an innovative and additional source for enhancing budgets for infrastructure projects, public services and wider sustainable development.

ABSTRACTContext and backgroundUrban agriculture is one of the urban land uses in the wards of Daraja Mbili and Lemala. Yet, its practice is constrained by limited access to land, unplanned land and the prevalence of claims that the practice is incompatible with non-agricultural and environmental conservation.Goal and objectiveThis study was conducted to investigate the regulation of urban agriculture through land-use planning and institutional frameworks.

Rwanda is recognized as a global land governance leader due to the success of its Land Tenure Regularisation Program (LTRP), which resulted in the registration of over 11 million parcels and the issuance of 7 million certificates of title, and the establishment of the Land Administration Information System (LAIS). These notable achievements have contributed to land market viability, reductions in land disputes, and increased land-based revenue.

Presently, one of the major challenges confronting the growth of rapidly urbanizing cities is the fact that, cities are growing in unsustainable form which is largely market-led growth and suffers from informal land market distortions. From a conventional point of view, planning aims at achieving compact growth.

African cities are characterized by urbanization, social and economic problems that very often favor crises in the development of their spaces. The city of Bouake, in the center of Côte d'Ivoire, has been experiencing urban sprawl since 1980. This urban sprawl is the result of shortcomings in urban land governance in Côte d'Ivoire following several land reforms. This study analyzes the successions of urban land reforms poorly suited to population growth and a difficult economic context in Bouake.

Championing A Regional Spatial Data Infrastructure Southern African Customs Union Case

This paper explores the use of spatial data in Tanzania, it underscores the reasons for lagging in the establishment of National Spatial Data Infrastructure. Using documentary analysis, strategically designed interviews, and questionnaires; data were collected from the spatial data user community in Tanzania.  Upon simple analysis of the data, the following were the findings: Firstly, it has been revealed that spatial data is not well managed, reused nor shared. Secondly, there are difficulties in the availability and accessibility of spatial data.
