The Act appoints the Chief Surveyor as representative of the authority responsible for the survey and mapping of land boundaries, for marking those boundaries and report and register them in the Cadastral Dossiers and to monitor and supervise the registered land and notify any variations in the map.

By this Act it is declared for the removal of doubt that the provisions of the Bills of Sale Acts, 1878-1882, of the United Kingdom, requiring the registration and re-registration of Bills of Sale under those Acts, are not in force and have not, since the commencement of the Lands and Deeds Registry Act, been in force in Zambia.

This Act is composed of 35 articles divided into eight Chapters. It aims at establishing the terms under which the creation, exercise, modification, transfer and termination of the right of land use and benefit operates. It regulates ownership of the land and public domain, the right of use and benefit of land, powers and responsibilities of the concerned public bodies.

The requirement of compulsory registration applies in relation to the dispositions of unregistered land as outlined in section 123 of the Land Registration Act 1925, here amended. A new section relative to effects of requirement to register is inserted.
