CHENNAI, India (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - India must pass a law granting women equal rights to land as men if the country is to ensure more food is grown for its more than 1 billion people and greater respect for the environment, a leading scientist said.

Speakers at a token hunger strike yesterday demanded a separate land commission for indigenous people living in plain lands.
The hunger strike was organised by Bangladesh Adivasi Forum, Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Citizens’ Committee and CHT Headman Network at the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital.

March 16, 2016 (JUBA) - South Sudan’s national army, the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA), has distanced itself from reports charging that some of its soldiers and officers have been grabbing land in and around Juba in a manner indicative of the practice having become an official policy of the government and the army.

Local business traders in the capital city Lilongwe has grabbed land belonging to an Asian businessman in Malangalanga which is to be shared among them.
According to the 'land grab 'group spokesperson, Fredrick Malata, they are going to share the land to develop it and build their shops
Malata said they decided to grab the land because it has been staying idle for over 12 years.
