Firm granted land for Koh Kong coal plant

The government is donating 168ha in Botum Sakor National Park in Koh Kong to the Royal Group to build a 700MW coal-fired power plant.

A sub-decree obtained by The Post on Sunday said the Ministry of Environment has to work in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy and Finance and others to prepare the deal.

The Post could not contact Royal Group chairman Neak Oknha Kith Meng for comment about the size of the investment.

El-Rufai tasks Kaduna monarchs on proof of land grab

Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai has challenged traditional rulers in the state to show any piece of land that has been forcibly acquired or illegally occupied in their domains.

He was reacting to the allegation by southern Kaduna leaders that their land had been annexed to Fulani herdsmen as grazing reserves.

Leaders of southern Kaduna had decried attacks by armed herdsmen who invaded their communities, destroyed homes and took over lands for grazing.

Land acquisition, distribution to move faster under simplified guidelines – DAR

The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) has simplified the guidelines on land acquisition and distribution (LAD).

DAR Secretary John Castriciones explained this was made possible by “lumping together activities into major steps, done simultaneously, or a combination of both,” thus shortening the whole process to be undertaken by DAR and other CARP-implementing (Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program) agencies from 291 days to 112 days.  

SLWMP Project Restores About 52,257 Hectares Of Degraded Lands

About 52,257 hectares of degraded land has been recovered in Northern Ghana for agriculture activities through the implementation of the Sustainable Land and Water Management Project (SLWMP).

Mr Asher Nkegbe, the Upper East Regional Director of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), who is also the Head of the Technical Coordination Office (TCO) of the project, said this at the second 2020 Local Steering Committee Meeting of the SLWMP held in Bolgatanga, Upper East Region.

Kratie land disputes ‘resolved’

The Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction said on Tuesday that it had completed handing out land concessions to 1,382 families in Kampong Damrei commune, in Kratie province’s Chhlong district.

Its statement came as some residents claimed they never received the land.

 

The ministry said the provincial administration and land division committee had separated families who were entitled to the land into three groups and completed handing it over on June 10.

Cameroon: Sheep-breeding community Mbororos challenges a temporary concession of 100,000 hectares in the Adamaoua

(Business in Cameroon) - On August 14, 2020, Ousmanou Biri, the regional president of the association for the cultural development of Cameroonian Mbororos - a community of sheep-breeding nomads well known in Cameroon- sent correspondence to the Minister of Land Affairs  Henri Eyébé Ayissi. In his correspondence, Ousmanou Biri denounced the temporary concession of 100,000 hectares of land in Tignère (department of Faro et Déo) to an investor who wants to use the lands for a livestock project.
