Namibia: Mbambo concerned about deteriorating rangelands

Windhoek- Rangeland management is no longer a ‘nice to do’ practice, but should be a command that every farmer abide by, because our rangelands are under immense pressure, says Governor of Kavango East Region Dr Samuel Mbambo.

He made the comment when he acted as keynote speaker at Agra ProVision’s bi-monthly breakfast meeting in Rundu on Friday, held under the theme ‘Rangeland Management – no grass, no bucks’.

Ethekwini — The natural environment of eThekwini, the city also known as Durban, has been put under severe pressure due to rapid urbanization and climate change. These have contributed to the degradation of the City's environmental assets, such as rare and threatened ecosystems, rivers and coastal wetlands, undermining the wellbeing of people and the economic prospects of the City, according to a World Bank report released today.

Indigenous Peoples and local communities protect half the world's land, but formally own just 10 percent, according to a report released today by a global alliance of NGOs.

The report, “Common Ground: Securing Land Rights and Safeguarding the Earth,” is published by the International Land Coalition (ILC), Oxfam, and the Rights and Resources Initiative (RRI).

COTABATO CITY, Philippines – It was a tedious and expensive 17-year uphill struggle for land ownership they will never ever forget.

The 54 peasants who fought it out had finally been grouped Tuesday into a communal bloc, the Maloong-Canal Farmers Agrarian Reform Multi-Purpose Cooperative, as a positive aftermath of a battle stymied by lack of money and connections.
