Op het raakvlak van stad en land bevindt zich een gebied waarin vele, zowel rode als groene, processen een rol spelen. Binnen het huidige voorgestelde beleid op het gebied van ruimtelijke ordening, in de vorm van de Vijfde Nota Ruimtelijke Ordening enhet concept stedelijke netwerken, wordt echter geen aandacht besteed aan hoe vorm zou moeten worden gegeven aan dit gebied. Een uitwerking van het beleid op een laag schaalniveau ontbreekt.

Ter verwezenlijking van een groen-blauwe structuur heeft de gemeente Amersfoort opdracht verleend tot het beschrijven van 24 investeringsprojecten die elders met succes zijn of worden uitgevoerd. Deze refereren aan concrete wensen die zich in de vijf deelgebieden van de gemeente (Eempolder, Vallei, Heuvelrug, Stad en Eemloop) voordoen met betrekking tot versterking, betere benutting of duurzaam beheer van elementen in de groene ruimte en het watersysteem.

Met het in de Vijfde Nota Ruimtelijke Ordening voorgestelde beleid, worden de waardevolle landschappen in Nederland de komende 20 jaar vooralsnog onvoldoende beschermd tegen de oprukkende verstedelijking. Bij continuering van de huidige trends en zonder aanvullend beleid gaat in 2020 door verstedelijking ruim 20␟an de waardevolle landschappen verloren. Met name landschappen in de Noordvleugel van de Randstad en de provincie Utrecht staan onder druk. Het kabinet stelt in de Vijfde Nota wel doelen voor het behoud van landschap en introduceert onder meer het instrument 'groene contouren'.

De rol die voorlichting kan spelen bij het landinrichtingsbeleid, wordt in sterke mate beinvloed door het feit dat het belang dat dit beleid tracht te dienen gewoonlijk slechts ten dele overeenstemt met hetgeen de betrokkenen als hun belang zien. Ook het belang van de boeren, de natuurbeschermers, de recreanten en de belastingbetalers is lang niet altijd met elkaar in overeenstemming. Het is een politieke beslissing welk gewicht aan elk van deze belangen wordt toegekend.

This work looks into the potential use of various instruments which rely on a close interaction between different segments of society (the public, the private and the third sectors) for increasing low income urban land development in Brazil. It is based on the recognition that the Brazilian housing problem is serious, threatening the development and environment of urban centres in the country, being also intimately related to the difficult access to adequate land by a significant portion of the urban population.

In trying to influence spatial development, people engage in discussions about distinctions between places or areas, and the roles of government and society, while they need to relate to other groups of stakeholders. In other words, boundaries (between meanings of places, between government and society, and between different groups of people) are omnipresent in spatial governance. Does the peri-urban area belong to the city or to the countryside? Can nature be integrated into farming? What should be the role of governments in relation to bottom-up initiatives?

The webinar Land Rights for Slum Dwellers in the East Indian State Odisha: Making technology work for the urban poor took place on 14 February, 2018. 

The webinar discussed anecdotes of the land rights policy in the state, application of innovative technology, processes and partnerships in the project execution and best practices followed in gaining rights for slum dwellers.

The Global Human Settlement Layer (GHSL) produces new global spatial information, evidence-based analytics describing the human presence on the planet that is based mainly on two quantitative factors: (i) the spatial distribution (density) of built-up structures and (ii) the spatial distribution (density) of resident people. Both of the factors are observed in the long-term temporal domain and per unit area, in order to support the analysis of the trends and indicators for monitoring the implementation of the 2030 Development Agenda and the related thematic agreements.
