The present Act lays down rules relating to expropriation in the province of Alberta. It applies to any expropriation authorized by the law of Alberta and prevails over any contrary provisions that may be found in the law, except the statutes enumerated in the Schedule. Unless an authorizing Act expressly otherwise provides, nothing in this Act restricts or affects a) the right of an expropriating authority to acquire, by agreement or transfer, any estate or interest in land that the expropriating authority may acquire by expropriation, or b) the right of the Crown or any person to convey to an expropriating authority any estate or interest in any land that the expropriating authority may acquire by expropriation from the Crown or person. Part 1 deals with rules concerning expropriation proceedings; Part 2 relates to procedure and principles for compensation, and Part 3 deals with general issues, such as crediting of proposed payment, effect of expropriation, unregistered land, right of entry, date of possession, etc. The text consists of 72 sections divided into 3 Parts. One Schedule is enclosed.
