These Rules make provision for the procedure to be followed in respect of cases before the Lands Tribunal. They replace the Lands Tribunal Rules 1975. The Rules consolidate the procedure in relation to appeals. They no longer provided for prescribed forms to be used except in relation to applications under section 2 of the Right of Light Act 1959. The main changes to the general procedure of the Tribunal are: (a) a simplification of the procedure for the determination of proceedings without a hearing; (b) a new simplified procedure is introduced for appropriate cases; (c) section 19A of the Arbitration Act 1950 is applied to proceedings allowing the Tribunal to award interest on compensation; (d) the Tribunal's powers of sanction in the event of failure to pursue proceedings diligently or comply with the Rules are strengthened; and (e) provision is made for solicitors to formally be placed on the record when acting for a party to proceedings with responsibility to the Tribunal for fees.
